Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.

Broadcast Journalism means to air news happenings enstaintanenously; such as, TV, radio, and internet.

List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.

TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1  Unusualness- news is the different, unusal, out of the ordinary. A roof caved in on a church.

2. Significance- Important events that affect many people. Elections, Taxes, Economy

3. Timeliness- Old new is not news, its history. Valentines Day next week, not Halloween.

4. Proximity- People want to know about NEARBY events. Local school, state tax law

5. Prominence-  When well-known people, bulidings, or places are involved, that is news. If you are arrested for shoplifing, if Zac Efron is, that is news.

6. Human Interest- Stories about ordinary people or animals, humorous or dramatic. Heartwarming or Heart-wrenching stories.
